Blame it on the camera
It is common knowledge in photography: it’s not the camera that makes the picture, it’s the photographer. A good photographer can create beautiful pictures with any camera. That is, assuming you have the liberty to choose a subject and/or situation where the technical capabilities of the camera meet your demands.
With ‘technical capabilities’ I am referring to the reach of your lens, it’s maximum aperture, the ISO performance of the camera and how fast it shoots for example. There’s no messing with the laws of physics. No substitution for light than more light - also common knowledge in photography. Photographers rarely complain about too much light, wishing for more is much more common.
So when you want, for instance, sharp pictures of indoor sports you need a fast lens (i.e. aperture of at least f/2.8) that has enough zoom to get you ‘into the action’.
My first camera, the Sony DSC R1, is a very good camera (of course it is, still have to sell it
). But it has it’s limitations in low light, as do all camera’s by the way. Since my fields of interest are parties and indoor sports (volleyball), I could use an upgrade to make sure the limiting factor would be me again, instead of the camera.
So that’s why I’m so glad I just bought my first digital SLR camera!!
I recently bought the Nikon D300, together with their 70-200 mm f/2.8 VR lens and a 14-24 mm f/2.8 lens. The gap-closing 24-70 mm f/2.8 is on it’s way.
Me = very happy now, now I have even less excuse not to bring my camera to take pictures. Apart from being busy with other stuff, but hey… what else is new?
I hope to be posting fresh new pictures from my new toy very soon!
